Why Actress Katie Holmes’ Cashmere Bra Break The Internet?

Lots of celebrities are big fans of cashmere outfits, but it was Katie Holmes’ cashmere bra that really stole everyone’s interest a few years ago. Yet, even to this day, the actress doesn’t understand why. 

The Dawson’s Creek star was photographed wearing a grey cashmere cardigan with a matching cashmere bra underneath back in 2019. 

For some reason unbeknownst to Katie, the pictures went viral, with big high street stores making copies of the set for the public to get their hands on. 

Speaking with the Wall Street Journal (WSJ) recently, the 44-year-old said: “I don’t know what a cashmere bra symbolised in terms of women going forward - or backward. I mean, did I burn it?”

The only thing the mother-of-one could think was that it was a “step in a good direction for women to just have comfortable bras”.

Holmes, who shot to fame starring as Joey Potter in the hit coming-of-age television series Dawson’s Creek, also previously spoke to Elle UK about the viral moment. 

She said: “I wasn’t expecting it to be something people would talk about. I just put it on and left the house.”

The actress-cum-director is known for her casual style, preferring to wear minimal make-up and stylish, yet comfortable, clothes, over being overly made up. 

Her most recent role sees Holmes working with fashion. She told the WSJ about working with stylist Brie Welch who designed the costumes for the movie Holmes is directing called Rare Objects. 

The flick, in which Katie also stars, tells the story of a woman who goes on a journey of self-discovery while trying to rebuild her life. 

Holmes told the publication that Brie “is a storyteller in the way she approaches her own style and her work on photoshoots”. 

When it comes to the actress’ own sense of style, it is clear cashmere is one of her top choices. She is not the only celebrity fan of the fabric though, as many stars from the world of TV, film, music, and even royalty love wearing pure cashmere jumpers, cardigans and capes. 

For instance, the Middletons are huge fans of cashmere, including Pippa Middleton, the Princess of Wales, and even Princess Charlotte, who have been recently spotted wearing smart cashmere jumpers at official events. 

The young princess even wore one during a Big Help Out event in Slough earlier this month, with the eight-year-old donning a pink cashmere top teamed with denim shorts as she painted part of a scout hut. 

Meghan Markle also frequently wears cashmere, and even chose it for the Netflix documentary entitled Meghan & Harry, which was released in December 2022. She complemented the lilac-grey sweater with her long natural waves. 

As Harper’s Bazaar said at the time: “Investing in a good quality cashmere jumper is a smart move for your forever wardrobe; it will never go out of style and should last forever with the right care.”

Other cashmere-loving celebrities include Cameron Diaz, Kate Beckinsale, Tilda Swinton, and Emma Watson.
